This week’s featured soundtrack is Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons.
Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons is one of my all-time favorite games. It’s a naval exploration JRPG set in the Age of Discovery of 1400s-1500s Europe, where superpowers emerged and prowled the seas for the best trade routes, control of the seas and, of course, gold from the New World.
The game itself features unique combat systems for an RPG, including naval ship-to-ship fleet combat, and one-on-one dueling between fleet captains. The winner of either style of combat wins the battle and takes the plunder!
The game has intersecting story lines, tons of playable characters and a huge array of things to do from piracy to trade routes to exploration.
Composed by Yoko Kanno, the soundtrack captures the feel of the different areas in the world, as well as the raw emotion felt during loss, battle, and confrontations throughout the game.
